Personal Profile

Photographer : Bruno Clement.
Iona Kewney. born 1973 . Troon, Scotland.
Originally studied in visual artists specialising in drawing and painting. Today she teaches art, exhibits regularly in contemporary galleries and has had numerous Solo art shows and installations.
Iona developed her unique dance physicality and theories through a visual art background and sport. Since a teenager she has been pushing the experimental nature and limits of the body in action, art and imagination which have continued throughout her entire career. With this will power and persistence came the development of her idiosyncratic movement styles, rigorous training techniques and present artistic vocabulary.
Her self willed training routines from running, cycling, squash, swimming, badminton and gymnastics competitions and tennis opponents developed alongside her art. A cross over began in her late teens when she started to use her body as a means of expression in visual art which lead into Performance art, Live art and then to Dance school and Circus school.
Today her work blends the history of all of these methods. She has sculpted her path to delivering the true nature, history and energy of the ideas and emotions of life.
Iona Has been making and performing her solo works since 1996.
